Hey all, I've just gotten an offer from KLA in Milpitas as an algorithm engineer. I have a BS in Physics, an MS in Photonics, and two YOE. TC is 155k (125k base + 10k annual bonus + 20k rsu). They will let me start remote in the short term and I'm currently in a low COL area (would be like 2.5x my current salary...), but long term I would have to relocate to the bay area and 155k isn't _that_ much money there, it seems. Seem realistic? Any meaningful input is appreciated #kla #klatencor #semiconductor
Hw companies generally pay much less than sw (business model & accompanying margins are substantially lower -- you can check quarterly financial reports of publicly traded companies, KLA, LAM research, AMAT etc.). Take the offer for the experience, skills and networking opportunities. Switch to FAANG in about 2 years. It's not just about where you start -- career is a 30-40 year journey for most 😁
I would ride the 2 year train from where you are and see if you can land a job in the valley with better pay in the meantime. Seems like you could always go back to something you already gave where you are right now.
How did it go?
I got them up to 165k tc but decided the bay area just wasn't worth it.
Continue interviewing and switch.
