Got an offer (verbal) from the JPMorgan Chase leadership development program. I'll graduate with a BS in CS but can't really find any PM jobs in tech. It looks like a good accelerated program for new grads except the pay is really really low (I think $70k plus $10k and it's non-negotiable for Dallas area). Does anybody who graduated from this program wanna share some pros and cons or any advice? Plus, is this program a good foundation for me to apply MBA in the future? TC: $0 (student) #newgrad #jpmorganchase #firstjob
First - congrats on the offers! It doesn't sound like you have any bad options here. The LT goal of the CLDP is to train future leaders for the organization - ED+ folks. You'll have to work to get there, but the credential opens a lot of doors in the firm and helps with networking. CLDP grads are sought after for strategy & operations roles; I don't know that front office is a likely outcome but I don't think it's out of the question if you impress the right people. Typically CLDP analysts rotate through three different businesses, and have a lot of input into where they get placed. This gives you an opportunity to get exposed to different businesses you might otherwise not get to learn / experience without aggressively pursuing mobility opportunities. Since JPMC is a major player in so many different FS sectors, this is an underrated opportunity. Trading, payments, commercial banking, investment banking, asset management, lending, risk management, trade finance - you'd get the chance to operate in the sectors of your choice and really understand the businesses, and if you find one you like it's typically not hard to get placed back into the space if your team likes you. Getting placed into Product Management post-CLDP is a very reasonable trajectory, you shouldn't have any issue making that happen. You could probably do one of your rotations in PM if you wanted as well. I don't know what the $ difference between the offers is, or if there's room to negotiate on that front - you could discuss with your recruiter. Ultimately, it sounds like you've figured out the heart of it, which is going straight into PM in insurance vs. spending a few years learning about FS more broadly before picking an area to focus on. Of course I'm biased about which offer I would take, but best of luck with whatever you decide.
Can verify - grizzlyed is correct. Wish I'd come in through this program.
Can you elaborate? I got another offer from UnitedHealth and I will start as a Product Manager which is my preferred role. It pays a lot more (105k + sign on bonus + $30k RSUs vest in second and third year). I don't know which one should I choose but on paper, the UHG one is a lot better.
