Kraken TC
Think I just passed final with Kraken, recruiter has set up a call to discuss next steps. Guessing we’ll also be discussing compensation. What sort of offer should I expect? It’s a senior front end/full stack role, mainly TypeScript but they’ve asked if I’d be okay learning Rust. I’m based out of London so don’t expect an SF salary. I did just see a post where a senior PM was offered $900k RSUs over 6 years, is that realistic where I am? Currently make £130k GBP which is pretty good in London (outside of HF/FAANG). If I could get £130k base plus some decent RSUs I’d be happy. 6 YOE. Yeah, E upper and F grade salary bands are pretty big and come with a 30% annual bonus (E upper is like senior++ and F is lead). If you’re in a critical business area with a large budget it’s not hard to earn near the top of your band.
Impressive, it’s a very good salary with 6 yoe outside FAANG / HF.
What was the interview process at Kraken like OP?
Pretty much the same as the FAANG interviews I’ve done but more emphasis on coding exercise instead of LC. Recruiter screen, long take home assignment, 4 interviews, then team matching call
Wait they sent you a coding exercise and still got you to do 4 rounds of on-site?? What were the 4 interviews about?
Base will either be similar or lower. It will depend on the level and the team. A lead should be around 130GBP and you can likely push for it if the offer is lower. It might be a little lower for the frontend team but I don't have many data points there. Kraken doesn't offer RSUs as far as I'm aware, so whoever said that is likely full of shit. Your equity package would likely be on the order of 10,000 options over 6 years with a 1 year cliff. This is decreasing so it might be 8k or even 6k now. How you value these options is tricky. The recruiters will likely inflate numbers. A secondary market is available which is nice. The spread between FMV and the secondary market is probably close to $30 depending on where you look. I personally expect the valuation to go up, but crypto is volatile and anything can happen so keep that mind. Feel free to DM me. I've enjoyed working here so far but not all teams are the same.
