Hello, My manager has been a little brutal to me since Jan 2024 though I was completing my sprint tasks on time. I had my 1 on 1 with my manager today and she mentioned I should be looking for other jobs and that Amazon is very fast based and that I am not able to keep up with it, I asked her if I am on Focus and she said that I am on a Performance Improvement Plan. I asked her since when I was on this plan and she said that she cannot disclose that to me. She had sent over a quip doc early Jan with some points and leadership principles that I had to work on. My team had a huge launch in Nov2023 and I had taken an advance notice leave during that time, before I left for my marriage, I had to complete a few tasks which got delayed by a day or two and my manager says that I am put in the performance improvement plan due to that delay. I am on H1B(60 days) and would like to know the next steps of action that I can take. She also mentioned in the quip doc when I confronted asking her if I am in focus/pivot a couple of lies saying I take help from senior engineers, that I did not submit the Jan tasks on time( though I did) and she said that I am not able to take on non ambiguous projects. I have proof for all of these. I reached out to other Amazon team managers and I have a meeting setup for tomorrow but could not apply to their job officially since my manager would be notified. I was curious to know if I can change teams under Focus/pip/or whatever I am on and wondering why my manager says I’m in pip when I haven’t received any official email from the hr. Also if I am on a fmla leave, would my manager be able to put me in pip? Update: I am already on fmla leave for two months and I haven’t received anything official about pivot yet. My manager mentioned that she will be giving me a big project next week( pivot) guessing that is when I will be put in the final stage Would I be able to challenge their decision with submission of proof?
Sounds like you are on Focus and the “plan” was that doc you got in January. You shouldn’t be talking to other teams within Amazon if those are the managers you refer to, because you would need a VP to approve a move while on Focus. You won’t get that
The quip doc she sent in Jan had a couple of leadership principles that I had to improve on and then a couple of weeks were skipped and finally she updated it with lies saying I took help from senior engineers, I am not completing the tasks in the last few months on time and that I am not capable of handling a project. All those points are bullshit.
Whenever I see PIP and Amazon together in subject on Blind, I think ahh again, I have already seen this subject thousands times. How come Amazon employees are not seing it and being surprised when it comes to them.
If you are on PIP you cannot transfer internally without VP approval and that is not happening. Sorry man, it’s lights out for you at Amazon.
Hey OP : first the facts : 1) You are in focus, at least from Jan onwards. 2) Cant change teams. Not allowed in focus without VP approvals, so it's kind of energy waste talking internally. 3) Mostly, your rating was decided in previous year-end TR and for whatever reasons, you were put into the bottom of the pile. Here is what you should do next : 1) Take FMLA - search in Blind for process. This will pause your PIP clock and you will get time to dedicatedly prepare for interviews. 2) Start applying everywhere possible. You are on H1, so not the time to be choosy. Prioritise staying in US for now. It's ok to take a pay-cut if required. You can bounce back later 3) Network like crazy. Call, ping, message everyone you have known for last few years and ask them to refer you for open positions. 4) Don't give up and don't be discouraged. Worst come worst, you may have to go back, be unemployed for a little while or leave known things behind...BUT no one can stop you from learning more and developing new skills. Keep putting efforts in learning even if you don't see results immediately. It will pay off ultimately. 5) Don't delve much into why this happened, why you etc. It can happen to any of us at anytime. That's all. Look for what's next.
I am already on fmla leave for 2 months, I would return to work and that is when she would put me in pip, hoping that I get a job by then. I was wondering which pay would be more, if I just coast through the pip project ( get salary every month) or if I take the tier one severance or if I challenge amazon( get monthly salary till they come to a decision)
What state are you in? WA or CA? Amazon will put voluntary separation down if you don’t challenge the PIP and take severance, but that also disqualifies you from unemployment insurance. In CA the maximum unemployment insurance is $450 a week ($11,700 total over 26 weeks), in WA the maximum is $1016 a week ($26,416 total over 26 weeks). It’s a numbers game, also spend your sick and personal time first - you don’t get that paid out after termination. Ideally you’d get paid more by not challenging PIP and taking the severance in one lump sum over challenging the PIP - losing and then only getting unemployment insurance paid out weekly over 26 weeks. I’m not certain but if you fight PIP and lose (which they’ll make it impossible for you to pass, if you are on a PIP you are out) then you get absolutely no severance?
I am in WA
Why do people work for this employer after all these stories
