I've subbed to it and I've been noticing that in the past few weeks, there have been more and more anti-immigration posts and comments, along with xenophobia, especially towards Indians. Has anyone else noticed the same? What about folks that moved there recently?
I dont understand. Are you experiencing xenophobic comments from caucasian Canadians about Indian immigrants in Canada?
How to tell a comment was posted by white???
I bet most of those anti immigration sentiments are coming from Eastern Canada
Very doubtful.
Well too much immigration can cause these issues. The liberal government is really jacking up the rents with rampant immigration and very low housing supply. They are only concerned about producing good GDP numbers since they have way too much debt. since many people cannot express their disappointment towards the government, they are expressing it on the immigrants. Too much immigration is not good for affordability nor the immigrants. It’s only good for the government since they see a slight raise in GDP( do not confuse with GDP per capita)
This is always how it happens. Government is always beholden to the wishes of its people. When it doesn’t listen, that causes problems.
I’ll never understand why we use gdp growth as a metric for how a country is doing rather than gdp per capita. If your population grows 10% and economy grows 1% that’s not a good sign
I read that subreddit occasionally and I think most of the hate from that sub is misdirected. The rising cost of living, the housing crisis, etc. People are frustrated and since the government won’t fix issues or take the blame, they use immigrants as an easy target to blame. The government really needs to do something about the crazy zoning laws for example. That’s the real reason housing prices are through the roof. Not immigrants. I know I can’t afford a house in Montréal. So imma keep chilling here in America.
Well put. Not a good time to be in Canada.
Some economist just came out in the news saying the government is undercounting non-permanent residents by 1 million. Not at all a good time to be in Canada.
Political witch hunt and shifting blame.
Hatred towards international students is out of bounds
The funny thing is all my Indian friends in Canada are also becoming anti immigrant. They want to close the door behind them. It's completely possible the comments you're seeing are from other Indians.
Totally normal nothing to see here
Now you know how East and South East Asians feel in the US
I honestly don't think US is as bad? At least not on social media
Isnt the increase in housing price benefit existing home owners (i.e the real canadian like ppl say)?
