TKDNR: started at 30-35 lbs. overweight. I had a medical emergency. I need to lose weight as part of my recovery. I am physically active, and middle aged. April 2023: 165 July 2023: 153 TWL: 12 pounds Height: 🧌 (short) Kaiser medical insurance does not cover weight loss medications or even Weight Watchers. I am paying out of pocket. The base drug for Wegovy, Rybesus, Ozempic is semaglutide; all 3 of these drugs are made by the same company, Novo Nordisk. Wegovy costs are $880 a month, plus $100 a month for the doctor visits and prescriptions. Online sign up was $120. Ozempic is a lower dose of this medication. I use a manufacturers coupon and get the drugs at Costco. The no-coupon cost is $1600-1800 a month. Must drive to Costco 2x and wait 1-3 days to fulfill. This drug is difficult to obtain in Mexico. Self-Injection 1x a week. I have also taken Rybelsus, (also Novo) personally sourced from Mexico. I visit a large name brand chain, and no doctors or prescription needed. You can buy up to 3 months supply at a time, 1 year if it’s in short supply in the US. Costs vary due to currency fluctuation, about $220 a month. No coupons. US retail $2000 month. Oral medication x1 per day. My first injection was in April 2023. I started using Rybelsus in May. TC:$210k #wegovy #rybelsus #weightwatchers #weightloss #misc #semaglutide #ozempic
Day 2: Hiccups and belching. But I skipped two meals and i’m not ready to kill anyone.
I'd love to follow this, keep us updated
Day 3: Didn’t sleep well, up early. I was pretty busy at work. Didn’t eat all day until dinner. Down 1/2 pound.
Day 4: Really didn’t sleep well. I drank more water yesterday. Down 1/4 pound, so total is 3/4 of a pound. I also threw up a little this morning. Apparently my fiber supplement (capsule) made me nauseous. Good thing I hadn’t eaten anything. I’ll try the fiber powder in water tomorrow morning. No 💩 for 4 days.
Also today I am hungry. I was not hungry yesterday. :(
Does Microsoft health insurance cover Wegovy or you pay out of pocket ?
Premera covers it for some situations, other insurances don’t. Mine isn’t covered by insurance. I got a discount card for 1 year that makes it about $850 a month. I also have a nutrition and exercise regime. I had a major health scare. Even with meds the numbers need to go down. Tried by myself with no success. So here we are. :/
Day 5: Made it through the night. I was hungry all day yesterday. Drank a lot of water. No nausea or stomach aches though and I stuck to my calorie goal. The biggest change is I’m not thinking about food all day. Which is weird, and 👍 both.
What dose did you start with? I've heard it takes a couple weeks to start helping
.25 mg
Day 6: I was so hungry yesterday. I ate two meals and a snack, but within my calorie targets. I still gained .4 lbs 😢 I’m 5 days in and down 2.6 lbs, though, so still way ahead. Normally by day 5 I’m wanting doughnuts. This morning I was able to pass the donut tray at church and move on.
I have the Wegovy prescription too, but Amazon Premera doesn’t cover it either. With coupon it is like you said ~$850 per month, and not affordable for me. I heard Google and Meta insurance covers it, is it true ? So I am trying to loose weight by calorie restriction, also targeting 1800 per day. Was fine yesterday, but have a problem today: only 12pm, but already ate 1700 calories : - )
Yeah it’s expensive. I’m thinking about a trip to Canada/Mexico. I’m told it’s under $500 in Mexico. Will report if I decide to do it. You can buy it with no prescription (allegedly) but crossing back you have to show it to the border patrol. 3 months supply allowed. I figure it may be worth it. 3 months at $1500 vs. $2550? Plus the border is not far for me, about 2 hours away. They even have a Costco there, so I could go to a known store. It’s a thought.
Update: Ate soup. Stomach aches. Not interested in more food.
