PwC Vice Chairman Offers Career Advice From His 30 Years Of Experience

Here is my interview with PwC Vice Chairman, Neil Dhar Neil Dhar has been with the management consulting firm PwC for over 30 years and is the vice chairman and co-head of consulting and a member of the firm's management committee. Over his tenure at PwC, he has held various leadership roles across different service lines, including deals, risk assurance, advisory and consulting solutions. He focuses on the areas of transformation, cybersecurity, privacy and risk, cloud and digital and tax consulting. In a wide-ranging Q&A, Dhar reveals why he can get up excited about his workday every morning. By being intellectually curious and open to new experiences, he has allowed his career to take him worldwide, building businesses within the firm, getting involved with M&A deals, private equity and restructuring organizations. The executive lives by the motto, “Feedback is a gift.” Dhar speaks to the importance of building a vast network and a trusted board of advisers to serve as mentors, sponsors and truth-tellers throughout your career. Jack Kelly: It’s so interesting that you have been with PwC for 30 years. It’s so uncommon. What’s the secret sauce? What kept you there? Neil Dhar: What I do, I love. If you get up 95% of the time and feel good about going to work, you’re probably in the right place—and I’m a lot higher than 95%. That’s why I have stayed as long as I have. Although I've been under the PwC umbrella for 30 years, I've done a whole list of things. I've worked in four cities. I’ve worked in multiple sectors. I actually started out as an auditor—a job I loved because I got to see things through very different lenses. I found myself in Europe doing M&A work, and I became an M&A junkie. I love the deal markets and get a high from helping companies do transaction work. I’ve lived in the Midwest for a number of years and worked on a number of different industrial consumer markets companies. I’ve been in New York for the last 10 years, working in the private equity sector within financial services. Most recently, for the last three years, I’ve been running our consulting business, which is a phenomenal business that does a lot of different things. I just have a great time doing what I’m doing. I get to meet with incredible clients who are doing aspirational and cutting-edge things. And then, on the other side of our business, I’m developing people. I get to work each and every day with some of the smartest people in the universe. I’m able to get that intellectual high everyday, both from our clients and from our people.... - Jack Kelly https://www.forbes.com/sites/jackkelly/2023/11/07/pwc-vice-chairman-offers-career-advice-from-his-30-years-of-experience/?sh=6ea0cf684cb1 #consulting #finance
