The alleged debt is for 50 bucks to 11 Charter Communications. I’m 90% sure I don’t owe this debt as I’ve never used a time Warner company for services. Should I lawyer up?
Ask for details on the charge with time, date, and possible location.
You can just dispute it
Ask to see the assignment contract from the communications company to the debt collector to prove that the debt was authorized. Send in writing. They likely won’t have it and will go away. Generally they send small amounts from well known companies hoping you’ll pay not to be hassled. Make them work.
The funny thing is, I would pay not to be hassled over this, but from researching the company they don’t do pay for deletes. 50 bucks is nothing compared to thousands in interest from a fucked up credit score
Yeah they are the equivalent of patent trolls. They want to threaten and then settle. Generally, they are looking for a quick buck and hope you just pay it. If it was real, it’s already gone to claims and your credit score has already been hit. Don’t call them over the phone, they’ll get you to pay. Just ask for proof of ownership of the debt. They probably won’t have it since they buy this in bulk. If it’s bs or not, they likely don’t have the assignment contract.
If you ignored them for 7 years the debt goes away. If they talk to you, they might be able to reset that clock.
You can tell the debt collectors that. Say, I never used this company I’m not paying for it, good luck. They will bug you for a while but ultimately they will give it up.
Also you can ask to settle the debt for less, say like 10$ and say I’ll pay you if I get this in writing that this will be cleared in full, otherwise GG
I had this happen with Sprint wireless about 10 years ago for $80. I just paid it.
Oh why is it always these att folks! Happened to me as well. For 70 bucks or something
Right?!? Mine was for 50 bucks for a company I’ve never had services with from 6, going on 7 years ago.
These assholes ruined my credit score for stuff I didn't keep, mine happened for a modem and I paid the 70 bucks to these collectors and it still screwed by credit score. Anyway it's gone now from credit record, this happened to me 8 yrs ago. Screw ATT! They keep selling our ssn to these debt collectors.
