I have an interview with Roblox but I am hesitant to move forward because of recession and smaller companies doing layoffs left & right. I don't know how strong Roblox is financially and whether they would be able to weather the impending financial storm. Can any internal folks comment on the situation within Roblox? #tech #roblox
Offer first think later
Stay put bro
I would stay put right now at Google and brace for impact.
Why would their position prevent you from moving forward an interview loop? And they have 10-k's available you can and SHOULD be reading before taking a new job to deeply understand if it aligns with your risk tolerance. Don't let the fear on Blind force you to make bad decisions.
While true, things are changing much faster than a quarterly report
Sure. But the long term potential of a stable, risk-averse company doesn't violently change in a quarter. Judging by OP's fear, seems like anything other than a ton of stability will be problematic
roblox is safe, did they hire remote or you live there?
What I heard is Roblox is aggressively hiring and they have reserve cash flow to manage in recession.
Roblox is understaffed and cash flow positive. Pretty dang safe. Our group is so understaffed that we have no limit on hiring. We have a long, arduous hiring process and require in person work in San Mateo, so it's unlikely we'll be able to hire enough to lay anyone off.
and why is that? Why did Roblox not hire in the past 2 years when every fella was looking for a new job.
1. They did not anticipate their growth due to the pandemic. 2. They have a long and arduous hiring process, are very selective. 3) much of the need was there after the IPO (so no longer being a unicorn and as attractive). I am new, but the October outage was a huge catalyst for hiring. 4) On-site, mostly Bay Area openings have a lot of competition for very few Engineers (especially Staff/Principal).
As a parent I can say that Roblox is probably recession resistant. Parents may not be able to afford trips or camps but they will spend 20 bucks on Roblux. That said it’s always a risk to jump in uncertaint times if you are sure where you are at is stable.
