Facebook Data Scientist - infrastructure

Just now starting to look for something new. Recruiter contacted me about a DS role in infra at FB. Anyone know TC range? Similar to SWE? How would level map? E4? Or same levels for DS positions ? I have a PhD (computational biology), 3 years post graduation. $200K current TC (150+30+20) in SD. https://www.facebook.com/careers/jobs/579105172538819/

If memory serves, same base as SWE with half the RSUs. Description sounds like this is their DS analytics position (SQL reporting), which pays less than core (ML focused). With PhD, you might be underselling yourself

Facebook gskr Dec 23, 2018

Yes base is same as swe but lower rsu. Infra DS was split from Core DS. They have pretty cool projects and not really an SQL monkey ( but again this will depend on which team you will end up working with as they are like on loan to other teams)

Good to know, thanks!

Rsu's half of e levels. Rest all are same.

Financial Engines frugalguy Dec 23, 2018

You will mostly be ic4.

Strongly doubt ic4. The person is already making 200k. Also it’s not clear that ds in infra is ds-analytics, can someone confirm?

Facebook qAwE67 Dec 23, 2018

Infra DS is not the same as analytics DS.

I know some one with 10yoe and PhD hired as ic5. I think it depends a lot on interview performance. Ic4 at the min and ic5 at the best.

Interview as ML swe. Don't undersell urself. If you think it's easier to enter fb first and switch later, it's not.

Thanks for all the feedback. Was unaware DS was so much lower than straight SWE. Will dive into some leetcode to prepare and explore SWE options (or something more specialized in my field elsewhere). Given current life in SD, doubtful I would move to bay for < ~350, which would be E4/E5 SWE range, no? Life in SD at 200 is already quite good.

Financial Engines frugalguy Dec 24, 2018

Yes. That makes sense.

How was the interview?

Did you interview?
