What’s the salary like in Dubai? Do they still pay you based on nationality?
As long as your are not into construction and working 12 hours on dry heat, you should be fine
Don't go. So many horror stories of passport seizures
That only happens if you are a low wage worker
Cost of living, rent, school fees are very high. Good employers provided subsidy on those as a benefit. For a decent life style and with at least 3 bedroom appartment with 2-3 kids the expense comes out to be roughly 10k usd per month.
That is useful to know. If we were to strip the kids and make it a 2 bed, what would you roughly say makes for a good quality life? (Keeping in mind I'm not keen on a 60hour work week)
2 big expense factors in Dubai are rent and school fees. Rest are all similar with us hcol location. If you remove fees and appt size it would be roughly 6-7k a month
How much does AWS pay their Solution Architects on the average in Dubai?
WLB depends on the team, but Careem generally trends towards lower work life balance. 60 to 80 hour work weeks are common in my team, but there are also other teams with better wlb. Generally, nobody bothers you on weekends. Also, Careem is remote first, so you do end up saving alot of commute time.
This is very good to know, thanks for sharing!! Would you say it's more shaped by the individual teams or generally the company culture? Also the recruiter said they're massively hiring ATM, you think this might improve wlb?
OP, are you in the tech team or biz team? 60-80 hours are similar to consulting hours. Would you recommend it for consultant trying to find WLB?
Based on what I heard from people who moved to UAE, you’re basically becoming a slave. One incorrect action and you can get yourself fired meaning you will have to leave the country very shortly. The foreign workers are living under this constant pressure to please their managers. The zero taxes comes with a price. Again, based on what I heard. Probably depends on your employer and the manager.
Even at FANG ?
Yes. That’s what’s I heard from a Microsoft teammate.
