A lot of people here serve money and not God
I’m relatively new to this space. In most blogs I read, there is a huge focus on keeping Wall Street happy, but not actually in building good products. I recently watched the Boeing documentary on Netflix. While they were building good products from 1960s to 1990s, they were actually going good. But when they started focusing on Wall Street, they stuttered and got beaten by Airbus fair and square. Why is there this much focus on Wall Street?
Growing shareholder value over time is kind of what capitalism is built on… not “building good products”. You have it backwards. Companies that build good products do so because it makes shareholders more money.
B****ches wanna get paid it ain’t that hard to understand
Dude, at the end of the day it’s business and money. Whatever you do all comes down to numbers. Maybe when a company starts with good product. But later on it’s all about money and you or anyone can’t deviate from that.
Your RSU are worthless if they don’t keep wall street happy and if wall street is not happy , the stocks remain or go down and you won’t join the company due to prestige. It’s chicken and egg …
Because tech “companies” are not non-profit charities! So annoyed with questions like this. A good product without profitable path is a moot point. Uber is a good product, but look at the stock. Do you want to work for free? Most people on blind is TC chaser, where do TC money come from? Either consumer paying or shareholder funding. So you tell me why. Rant: if you just want to go build a good product, then go join a startup. What are you doing in MS?
So there is something called Fiduciary duty to the shareholders (you can google this) which is literally the main job of a CEO of most types of public companies. Hence, the need to keep wall street happy
That hefty bonus and shares that CEOs get for showing short term profits instead of having long term impact. It is primary reason why companys are not looking into long term good products/services.
Money makes the world go round.
Harder to actually predict demand and make good product people want. Compare to financial engineering to trick wallstreet for a buy out for 100x multiple. Just look at VC fund, 49/50 funds turn out to be a dud, but the remaining moon shot can make crazy multiple and cover the cost of the 49 failures.
CEOs have to guide company’s with the goal of making public investors money (Public companys)
