Free speech is free. Damn the terms of service . Twitter had been down this path before and it didn’t go well. The social platform has been down this road before, and it didn’t end well. A decade ago, a Twitter executive dubbed the company “the free speech wing of the free speech party” to underscore its commitment to untrammeled freedom of expression. Subsequent events put that moniker to the test, as repressive regimes cracked down on Twitter users, particularly in the wake of the short-lived “Arab Spring” demonstrations. In the U.S., a visceral 2014 article by journalist Amanda Hess exposed the incessant, vile harassment many women faced just for posting on Twitter or other online forums. Over the subsequent years, Twitter learned a few things about the consequences of running a largely unmoderated social platform — one of the most important being that companies generally don’t want their ads running against violent threats, hate speech that bleeds into incitement, and misinformation that aims to tip elections or undermine public health. I wonder what will happen now. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/babylon-bee-others-return-twitter-after-musk-buys.amp

Free Speech went incredibly well at Twitter in the past (Arab Springs was amazing). It just didn’t go down well with advertisers (who heavily slant left) who don’t want to post their products between viewpoints on particular political spectrums. Now that twitter is going private and away from advertisers, this problem will be largely solved. Anything that is legal ethically needs to be allowed on twitter, assuming that users have to authenticate with their real identities and that users have powerful moderation tools to get useless content off their feeds permanently (e.g. “hate speech” from the left / right, duplicate accounts to get around blocks). The government also needs to start stepping in when individuals post illegal content.
Private doesn't mean away from advertisers unless musk is just running a pro fascism site on his own dime. It's either gonna cost him money or they will still be at the whim of advertising.
@Google he’s already stated he’s planning on moving to a $2 subscription model to KTLO and develop basic features.
