There seems to be a rush to get things back to “normal” but when I hear or see this I think it’s sad that more hasn’t been learned from these unprecedented times. Shouldn’t this be our wake up call? While WFH can be beneficial for many for personal reasons, I think it can also help combat larger societal issues like climate change (example: less cars on road=less pollution) and the housing crisis in the Bay Area (example: emps can live further away and maybe only come to office a few times a month). Whey aren’t big corporations using these times to make more impactful changes for the global benefit of generations to come?
Very few companies make big changes based on societal benefit. We will see WFH become the norm if it increases profit. We will see things instead return to normal if the collaboration challenges of WFH are a big drag on profit.
they could also fix the housing crisis by just building housing instead of pandering to the NIMBYs
We shouldn't squander a pe rfect crisis to revisit our entire way of life. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. While collective action is difficult in a democracy, it is especially so in a plutocracy.
