If you look at most of the "studies" touted by anti gun special interest groups like Everytown and Gifford's they are all shallow and misleading. Here are two examples: "Gun deaths" - they have lots of studies talking about how "gun deaths" respond to different policies. But why is a "gun death" something anyone should care about? Shouldn't we instead focus on the homicide rate or the suicide rate? If the overall death rates aren't impacted why do we care whether a person committed suicide but shooting or hanging? Or committed a domestic murder by shooting or stabbing or strangulation? At the end of the day dead is dead. "Most shootings are committed with high capacity magazines", lots of statistics touting this that just ignore that most guns COME WITH high capacity magazines and people are just using the magazine that they got with the gun. If they only fired three rounds from their 15 round magazine, how would limiting it to 10 have made a difference? This is a nonsense statistics. Feel free to google "gun deaths" and "high capacity magazine statistics" to find many examples. These people like to pretend their views are based on data, but they are not. They create the illusion of data with studies engineered for headlines and sound bytes to back up their positions which are ultimately purely ideological in nature. But hey, "bELIEve tHE ScIEncE!"
Gun suicides have a much greater chance of success than other suicide attempts. Much much greater. As such they are a unique threat to suicidal people in a way that other attempts are not. It sounds like you're making an argument against high capacity magazines, as declaring them unnecessary for people to have. After all, what difference would it make if you're only firing a handful of bullets out of a large pool anyways.
If there were any socially significant impact on the suicide rate the angry antis would put that in their studies instead of "gun deaths". Instead you get a bunch of stats about "gun deaths" and then a bunch of hot air and opinion. As soon as you see those BS statistics like "gun homicide" or "gun suicide" instead of just "homicide" and "suicide" your shields should go up and you should look with deep suspicion at everything else that source is claiming. BTW, the types of guns that antis want to ban (handguns, ar15's) are not the ones with the highest suicide success rate (grandpa's duck hunting shotgun). So it's bullcrap
High capacity magazines are more useful for defenders than for attackers. If your home is invaded by 4-5 armed gangsters and your hands are shaking with adrenaline you might really need to fire 4-5 rounds at each of them, whereas they will probably each only fire 5-10 rounds at you. Particularly with something like an AR-15 for home defense you will want the 30rd magazine, and you will want to keep it loaded and ready to go. So it's a completely silly law that hands the advantage to the bad guys.
“Gun deaths" is the classic one. It’s used for showing more guns means more gun deaths.
Guns are clearly being used well in this country
almost every "study" related to political topics is pseudoscience. cancel culture basically guarantees biased treatment as researchers are afraid to lose their jobs if they speak against the party line, it's especially bad in academia
