Uber's CEO had considered axing the entire ATG program when I interviewed onsite with ATG a year ago. My interviewer (a team lead) said his entire team had left. The office was eerily empty, although it was a new office in SF and may now be fuller
Stay away from ATG; they are not Waymo backed by Google’s Ad cashcow. ATG’s future all depends on how UBER keeps funding, and as Uber going to IPO investors pressure would be tighter to prove high profitability to sustain high valuation. I know contacts whose team left/switched to core Uber team (Michaelangelo); one of them Kumar Chellapila - ex ATG Director- who took position in lower-ranked AV team at Lyft’s Level5. Karthik was another member who joined Google Cloud AI.
This. Atg has no advanced tech just like lyft level5 is nothing close to l5
The cash issue may apply to all self driving car companies. From this perspective, Uber atg is probably the one with the most cash flow support after Waymo. Lyft is the third. Other startups purely depends on the investment and they themselves at the company level almost generate 0 revenue.
The people working in atg now are those who can’t find another team here to accept them or pass any FANG/APSL interviews. Do yourself a favor and stay away

The work is engaging, the learning opportunity is immense, the pay is great. No one here is an oracle and can predict the future. Even if somehow funding runs out and everything gets axed I can almost guarantee the problems you will help solve over the next two years will be some of the most interesting of your career. Make sure to factor that into your decision :)
Well known with Uber that ATG is a shit show. Good luck trying to transfer out when you realize this. Very hard to do.
