So I have been in contact with this dealer for an M550 for the past 2 weeks. First I showed up without any appointment and asked to see the car. They said it is not available yet as it is going through some maintenance. I asked for the detailed report and they gave me the car fax and the scheduled maintenance. The car was leased. week 1: - Salesman: the car had a local owner who lives in this town. Car maintained properly and etc. it will be available next week. Leave your number and I will call you. -Me: ok Week2: - me: called the dude mid week, is the car available yet he said not yet but we are getting close he will perhaps call me toward the weekend Today: - Salesman: called me and said it is available for a test drive - Me: I will be there Took the cars for a test ride. It was nice (as I expected). Back to the dealer. Salesman: actually there was something like a stone went under the car and that was what we were repairing during the week. “The car actually belongs to one of our staff and he took care of it very well” Me: (already suspicious) get me quote for it Salesman: ok (and asked about the financing details and etc) When for a few mins and came back: - sorry sir the car was sold 25 mins ago. Someone called and left a deposit. We will know till Wednesday Me: ok let’s test drive a 340M Salesman: ok test drove it. Back to the dealer. Salesman: what do we do? Me: back and forth asked for MARP and list price and asked price and etc (I didn’t research the M340 before hand). Landed on a price but something inside of me said to me that this is trap and perhaps I should wait) Told him that call me on Wednesday. I will either buy that M550 or find me another one. He said ok. What do you think is happening? TC 330k
Just buy what you want. Don't haggle
They simply want you to buy something else
Find another dealer
Good deals always end up like that. You were close but someone caught wind and sniped it. My recommendation is to not settle and wait for a good deal. But if you’re already tired and just want a car, go for it.
Read the reviews. What is the experience of other customers at the dealership?
4.3 stars … not bad for a dealer but not sure if this is an indicator
4.3 ⭐️ is not very good. Sort by lowest to highest and read the negative reviews. Compare that to other BMW dealerships in the area.
They want you to buy something else because you sounded too eager for a car.
How would that be any of value for them ? Actually the other way they want a to sell these as the commissions are much higher on the higher numbers :)
Dealers need to move inventory fast and aged inventory costs them more money. If there are no direct takers of that specific cars, they try these type of approaches. You showed your cards way too early that sounded somewhat eager to close a deal so they tried to play the game of the other car getting sold.
