lets compare new grad making 52k midwest disliking coding everyday want to focuse on my saas app and other ideas but need money hating life lately family and friends expectations of me are ridiculous
At least you're not a jew living in Germany during the 1940s. Or a black person born during slave trade era.
Well I am black and my grandparents bought slaves during the trade. Not just white man bought slaves
Did that happen too??
Hey that’s not a bad salary. I mean on here it seems low, but you’re not doing bad for yourself. As for the job it’s your first one it sucks you have to tough it out, but I’m sure if you work to get a different you can within months. If you hate it that much maybe even try a change in career to something you don’t hate as much. Tech people are definitely looked at for jobs besides coding, if you want to go into supply chain or other possible jobs I’m sure you can. As for expectations, no one is disappointed in you, they might know your potential in some ways to be higher, but if you don’t like the stuff they think you’ll excel at, then it makes it harder to really excel at it so their expectations are misplaced. If you explain the mental stuff you’re going through they should understand and be happy with you. You’re doing great for yourself and this job is temporary try and find simple pleasures in life to hold you over (I know it’s not that simple, but I think this advice is worth giving anyway)
Live your own life and get far from those friends and family that give you pressure. Do what you love and enjoy the ride. Note: sometimes we sacrifice doing what we want for money, is all about priorities.
Hey man life is a shitshow, embrace that and espouse the I dont give a fuck because nothing really matters mentality and you’ll be much happier. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it works
Its probably hard to focus on your app if you dilslike coding everyday
You are single-handedly making close to median US HOUSEHOLD income and got started in a field that could 10x that TC in 5 years. Whats the reason for sadness again?
Move to a different location and you can easily 2x your salary and also reset your life and get away from what's making you unhappy.
45k TC here in my 21st year. But I've got a roof over my head and food on the table. Better to count one's blessings than to rage at an indifferent world.
$168k TC although that stock jump helped my TC a bit so it's higher now problem is lowish TC for 2.5 YOE so feel the urge to jump for promo (I came to Amazon as an SDE1 last summer after my new grad job in the Midwest making only $94k salary)
What company was it in the Midwest
Big company but only one office in Columbus OH so don't want to narrow my identity much
