I am from south Asia and we generally drink warm or room temp water during winter. In our culture it is believed that one can get sick if you eat/drink ice cream or very cold water during winter. But in the US I see people drink very cold water/soda and they serve very cold water in the restaurants too. My American friends and colleagues drink cold water even when they have soar throat or cough. My kid's daycare keeps the water bottles in refrigerator even during winter. Who is doing it right and what is the science behind it?
It’s just preference, there’s no science behind this. I grew up drinking warm water too but I prefer cold water these days. I drank warm water for the most part when I visited South Asia recently and it’s okay but it doesn’t really hit the spot like some cold water.
It’s a superstition that you get sick from getting “cold” or eating/drinking cold things. Science has proven that you get sick due to getting infected with viral particles or bacterial particles. In winter, people tend to stay indoors, or gather in large groups indoors. That’s why people get more sick often in the cool weather.
Drinking warm water is better for digestion, whether during hot or cold weather.
I wouldn’t say it’s western. It’s an American thing. In Europe nobody puts ice in their water.
I have never heard of or even considered drinking warm water in my entire life.
I like beer warm so you can drink it quicker
Strange. I like half ice half beer
I literally cannot drink warm liquids. I do Ice water. Ice coffee. Chilled shots. FREEEZING only beer. In fact I go on yelp before going into a restaurant to confirm it’s a place that puts ice in the water otherwise I skip it or need to bring a water bottle with cold water. When I travel abroad, I normally have to buy a bag of ice a day to keep my water cold enough. Drinking warm anything doesn’t make sense to me.
People evolved for a lifespan of 40 years preferring drinking cold stream water. It naturally ensured the best cleanest. Drinking warm water was the surest thing to get sick before the discovery of fire and boiling. Drinking or eating something warm except fresh kill was a big no no in these days.
I always drink cold water no matter the temperature outside. I run hot all the time since I'm physically active.
Asian culture is right fir sure The west spends most money on health and is one of the sickest
Because they drink cold water, right?
Doubt spending correlates to bad health. If you look at some Amazonian tribes they spend 0 in healthcare and they die young from infections and diseases totally treatable in civilized world.
