After 7 months of job hunting, I finally got an offer. Company name: Entegris - Massachusetts area 30 min northwest of Boston, MA Role: Quality Engineer Base offered: $88k , joining bonus: $5k Nothing has been spoken about $ relocation and stock options. I’m currently in Houston, TX. Everything looks super expensive up there when I look up. Current TC: 70k YOE: Masters + 3.5 yrs in mfg but not exactly in quality engineering I want to see how much is the best I could negotiate.
Well if you feel too hot in Texas, New Hampshire is a great place to get yourself freeze in winter. Assuming you want to live in NH. They both have no state taxes.
Haven’t assumed anything yet. Want to get the best out of the current offer.
Agree the offer is not good enough for you to move. Keep going, the better ones are coming !
Seems light for masters plus exp in expensive ass Boston area
What do you think could be an decent $? If you have any friends in the same area, similar manufacturing roles, what would you consider?
Don’t do it. You will regret it. Texas is great. I did move from Dallas to Boston and regretted it due to winter. Never made it to Texas again. Keep searching in Texas you will get it. Thank me later.
Thank you. I will keep your advice in mind. At least, if I get a better deal, I can use it to negotiate future offers, so wanted to know what could be the best base $.
^ this And the offer you received is not that great to move out of Texas to Boston. Keep trying. Lot of opportunities in Texas these days. You will find something soon.
You’re in hardware. You should ask for twice if that. It’s time hardware folks are paid what they’re truly worth. When you accept a lowball offer like this .. you depress offers for all the other people in hardware realm.
No. Not in hardware. I will be a supplier quality engineer for a company that supplies parts to another hardware company.
Did you accept the offer or any update?
I rejected the offer. Learnt that the manager who hired me was about to quit. I felt lowballed on the offer as well, plus the weather, overall felt it was not worth it.
It’s a pretty good offer. I would also think there is an annual bonus?

I'm no help in evaluating whether that TC is good for the role or company but I will say Boston is significantly more expensive than Houston and the new TC will probably not go as far as your current TC if you move
What could I expect? How much more can I ask for?
Literally no clue but in terms of cost of living it seems way off
