Is 996 legal for salaried employee in us?
There are a lot of extra requirements for working more than 40 hours a week if hours are tracked. If you are salaried like most swe, the company doesn’t track hours but can’t require you to work a specific length of time. If you can do the job in 20 hours then the company can’t complain. However, many tech companies are run by people that have no clue about employment law, and only find out when they get sued for things like employment misclassification and wage theft.
big law and investment banking are 996 in the US if not more
Oh well then I'm sure all the tech companies will stop doing it /s
996 is legal in India 🇮🇳
Everything is legal in India as long as you have money.
A lot of tech companies have removed weekend work recently though. Tencent is enforcing that employees leave at 6pm on wed. I don't think it'll get to 10-6-5 like in the US right away but there is public pressure to move in that direction.
