Hello Blind community, I am a new grad sofware engineer into my job for last 6 months. I believe that I am an average developer. Upon graduation I did receive multiple job offers but I failed my amazon interview (the only top tech company I interviewed with) . I am well aware that I am not the best coder nor do I think I will ever be. My question to you guys is that if I work hard on leetcode and prepare for interviews at top tech companies , will I be able to sustain even if I make it to one of those somehow? or am I better off at exploring roles like PM ? I know its an open ended question but just want to know how easy/difficult is the day-to-day jobs at these companies #leetcode #apple #netflix #microsoft #oracle
@Op do you strive to be more than an average developer? If you don’t then you don’t belong in FAANG. Attitude is important. You might just end up average if you believe it so. Or you may be great if you believe that. Don’t settle at being average. Average doesn’t get you great offers.
You might be better than most of us here. It's just a matter of luck/ hardwork to get in here
The first lesson is breaking the mindset that “tiers” of companies exist. There are no tiers, only tradeoffs FAANG — highest TC, shit team choices, lowest room to grow, highest scale problems Mid size companies — Medium TC, good team choices (you can actually do ML here without needing a PhD). Medium room to grow and make impact, some scale problems Startups — low TC (but you get a lotto ticket to retire early) optimal team choices (your company IS the team). Maximum room to grow. No scale problems. Unstable job FAANG is not the optimal solution
LC has nothing to do with our work. We just chose LC style interviewing because it's the quickest/easiest way to hire hardworking talents
Yes I know it must not have anything to do with the actual work , but was trying to understand the complexity levels of the work along with the expectations for it
Stay humble, never change the “I have a lot to learn” mindset and you can be successful anywhere.
