My stock are very less at Microsoft

Walmart cTtG52 Sep 13, 2022

Do not come to Walmart.

Microsoft help grow OP Sep 13, 2022

can you please elaborate more?

Walmart cTtG52 Sep 13, 2022

The culture and leadership are terrible, depending on your org you will work both US hours and India hours resulting in no work life balance and instead of other talented engineers to work with and learn from you will be answering the questions of an endless stream of contractors from places such as Revature.

Interviewed at Walmart in 2010 as a new grad - if things are still the same - don’t do it. - Their salary offering was $35k less than where I chose to start. - They required working 45hr weeks as a base work week. - They required working at least one Saturday per month when the whole team was expected to me in.

Microsoft help grow OP Sep 13, 2022

Things are not the same now, it has changed a lot at least in terms of pay wise

Walmart jenqoo Sep 13, 2022

ExxonMobil, that is definitely not the case now.

Like all massive companies Walmart is very team dependent. I’m looking to leave but don’t regret joining. I’ve had a lot of impact and grown a ton. Your offer also looks pretty good. Promo velocity is also very fast at Walmart at least in my experience

Thank you, do you know what is avg. time that a person needs to be in Sr SWE before moving to Staff SWE?

Walmart jenqoo Sep 13, 2022

Officially it’s 18 months, but do exceptionally well and exceptions can be made.

Nobody cares if you are from Faang or not. What matters is your role team and subject matter expertise. All the faang recruiters keep pinging every Tom dick and harry on LinkedIn. Walmart Pressure won’t be similar to a faang. But depends on the team

Walmart dekhabinod Sep 13, 2022

Lol... Walmart is not bad on the resume. If anything, it's a positive. But it does have horrible toxic work culture. So moving from Microsoft doesn't make sense.

Walmart Covertcon Sep 14, 2022

True Story - Walmart Sr. leadership is clueless and totally focused on short term stock/rep jumps. The current CTO (Suresh Kumar) is an idiot of epic proportions. He has allowed his underlings to make insane directives and set extremely damaging directions.. But on the bright side - its pretty easy to stand out, and VERY easy to ride under the radar - whichever floats your boat.

I would be worried sick if there’s only 15-20 hours/week worth work. Time to move.

Walmart OG.Topson Sep 13, 2022

“Yearly Stocks: 15k” It should be 45k each year for 3 years. NOT 45k/3 = 15k each year, unless offers have drastically changed since I accepted mine

PK funnyloop Sep 13, 2022

I got the Samsclub offer which was similar, bit less new hire grant. RSUs I got are 45k per year vesting over 3 years time. I think OP calculated it as 15k/year since this 45k vests over 3 years. However, 3rd year is the most lucrative one because you have entire 45K worth of rsu’s in one year. One more overlooked factor here is walmart RSU’s vest over every quarter.

Microsoft help grow OP Sep 14, 2022

If i read it correctly, it is 45k stocks vested every quarterly for next 3 yrs

Walmart whywork! Sep 14, 2022

From a tech standpoint, less reputed - yes. WM doesn't have an azure and isn't gonna have one. Tech standards - org wide standards might be low, but there are teams that are pretty decent too. So, depends on team. Culture - bad, frustrating, I haven't seen one engineer say her 3 levels above are all good leaders. Worth 70k extra? I think so.

This is the same in every company !! Not surprised
