slack user opinions

It's Slack's core product, so you know they're not going to abandon it in the way Microsoft and Google tend to come out with a chat tool and then abandon support. They listen to feedback about how to make it better.

I'd go with Discord at this point, more bells and whistles like easy voting mechanisms. Slack has some plugins to tools that some may find useful, like Jenkins. My experience was that Slack was overhead above the tried and true combo of email + IM because you still need to manage your email & IM. So might as well limit it to occasional niche situations, and might as well go Discord.

my favorite feature is consuming gigabytes of RAM
