snap chat rejection

I'm very surprised at recent rejection by snap chat San Francisco office. I thought I was doing perfectly in the on-site interviews, in coding sections no bugs were found in my code, I correctly answered all the follow-up questions, and in system design section, the manager gave immediate positive feedback about the solutions I gave. but one week later, the recruiter just sent me an email of rejection, saying that though I showed multiple strengths in on-site interview, there're no positions that fits me at this moment, it's a hard decision, as the team did enjoy getting to know me. if there're not fitting positions for me, they should not invite me for onsite interviews, what could be the real reasons for the rejection?

How many coding and system design rounds? Also yoe? That's a generic rejection email so don't read too much into it

2 coding sections and 2 system design sections

Could be any number of reasons really, such as "culture" aka they just don't like you for undisclosed reason

It seems that there's a common theme here that if you interview... And you feel you do well... That you automatically will get a position. Now I'm not a swe, so maybe I dunt get it... But there's so much more that goes into WHY you hire someone. Expectations seem really messed up around here.

So many companies are so desperate for SWE’s that answering the riddles correctly is usually all you need to get offers. And then you can usually counter offer and get even more.

Could be a hiring freeze

The fact that you felt like you did nothing wrong after the interview means you're missing something that you need to work on. Think back and be super critical about what went wrong

Disagree. No need to beat yourself up. Probably something out of your control.

Maybe there's a better candidate. Don't read much into it. Your action items won't change.

This has become a norm in SWE interviews now. Don’t beat yourself about it. Here are the few reasons I think they say it: - they don’t know who to hire and realize this after the interviews- which they can’t share it’s their fault - recruiter gives the wrong message to the candidates after interviews - you are not brand material compared to other candidates - they are looking for someone with a very very specific expertise compared to their laundry list job description
