square stood me up πŸ™ƒ eng onsite

Passed the first two tech phone screens with good feedback and was moved to the onsite, which they scheduled as soon as they could and I spent a bunch of time prepping. Two days before I was supposed to come in they said they had bad timing on their end and it ended up that all their open roles were filled. Does this happen often with companies? Definitely a bummer when you spend time researching their mission + tech stack etc Also if anyone recommends fun nyc tech companies lmk πŸ˜›

Happened for me with FB but it was a PMM role.

Prepping is never wasted effort .. u need to thank them for the opportunity

It sucks but at least they didn't waste your time further on a pointless onsite.

Damn that sucks. I'm actually about to start my interview process with Square NYC. I guess I should watch out. Where else are you applying?

BuzzFeed QDsI05 OP May 11, 2019

I’m still scoping out other opportunities! Had a weird interview w wework and don’t think I’d go with them (heard they can have a toxic culture) but otherwise really want to break into the big tech company space after working at a media company

BuzzFeed QDsI05 OP May 11, 2019

How about you!

Square SQ May 11, 2019

Just like true BuzzFeed fashion, this is a misleading title. I guess you needed to sensationalize it a bit? Definitely not stood up. Position was filled, this happens literally all the time at companies, especially at companies that you apply to specific roles (instead of for a company). This happened to me at Salesforce and I didn't claim they stood me up.

BuzzFeed QDsI05 OP May 11, 2019

Okay that makes sense! I hadn’t had it happen to me before

Amazon eodndbe May 11, 2019

Come to @Stripe. Hiring in SF and Seattle

Square jTCr61 May 13, 2019

What is the interview like?

I’m not an engineer but it’s a strong engineering culture so you’ll have your standard coding/ design questions. The selling point for me aside from comp of course was the people and culture. They are an under the radar unicorn with a lot of promise to go IPO in the next 2-3 years.
