Specifically I am trying to get some concrete NAMEs of apartments or agents that you personally would recommend, not vague suggestions like go to this website / find an agent... thanks for your good intention to help, but I already did my research on those websites, just trying to cross-validate. So no vague/general at this moment plz. Hi I am moving to NYC and I am looking for some recommendation about apartments rentals. I am pretty sensitive to neighbor noise, such as upstair kids running or next door neighbor playing heavy metal. I am looking for a quiet apartment with good soundproof feature. (of concrete structure etc.) Especially, I don't want to depends on luck(such as "this year I am lucky to have a quiet neighbor that follows quiet hour rules"). Also, in terms of commuting, I would start next job whose office is close to Google Chelsea, and I want to keep everything within walking distance -- I don't drive, and I am concerned about NYC subway system -- although mayor Adams seems handling related issues actively, at this moment as far as I know NYC subway still has issues related to attacks(etc. homeless with 8 crime records attacking elders/female etc.) or human remains. If the subway route that I need to take from home to my office is safe and clean, then I don't mind. But right now I doubt there's any such route. Any recommendation? also, not sure whether it's a good idea to contact real estate agents. Up to now I have been living in smaller places and have only contacted apartments leasing offices directly. But it seems on yelp etc. some real estate agents or companies have pretty good ratings and they also take apartment rental business. #housing #nyc #apartmentlist #quiet #soundproof #safe #chelsea #manhattan
Imagine wanting to live in NYC😂🤣😂🤣
^ this. The invisible hand is hard at work in the Nyc housing market. So pay up. $4-4.5k+ will get you a decent apt in popular areas in manhattan (including chelsea)
and I am looking for specific names. do you happen to know some such apartments?
Bro I pay 3k+ for a studio in a new skyscraper and I can totally hear every time my neighbor has his TV on or dog toys being thrown on the floor. It IS luck based to an extent. There is no foolproof way when you get people cramped together like in the city. Get some earplugs and get used to playing background noise/music.
You can check out apt in jersey city (newport or grove) They are mostly new buildings and much more sound proof. Easy to get to downtown.
thank you so much. however I think it requires 1 stop subway. do you think jersey city to chelsea route is at least safe(free of attackers) and hopefully clean?
I think path is much safer/cleaner than ny metro. I haven’t had much issues personally.
Toughen up! It's NYC and you kinda gotta get used to the life here. You are not gonna get peace and quiet or avoid homeless at all times. If you can't handle that, move elsewhere. To answer your original question, go on Streeteasy or a broker and look for places around Chelsea or the West Village (walking distance to the Google office)
thank you. I did that, and I am asking specific names of those good apartments. also to make it clear. I don't mind homeless who doesn't have crime record. I do mind those still walking freely on the street after commiting a lot of crimes.
Hi! I’d recommend looking at Tribecca and Battery Park areas. They are beautiful and quieter than Midtown and West/East Village. NYC Subway in Manhttan is very safe. Most of the attacking incidents happen in Queens/Bronx. I lived in NYC for 6 years and never been to Bronx and only been to Queens in an Uber/Yellow cab when flying out of JFK.
Why are you bragging about not going to Queens or the Bronx? There are nice parts in either areas. Get out of your bubble! Most of the attacks have been around FiDi, Chinatown and Times Square but these could happen anywhere. The NYC subway is still a very safe place and most people have a higher likelihood of getting hit by a bus than getting attacked on the bus.
It wasn’t a brag. I worked long hours so never really had time to do anything in Manhattan let alone going to other boroughs. If you haven’t heard it, wlb sucks in big banks ☹️
Everything you described is exactly what NYC is. It’s noisy, smelly, rude and still IMO the best city around. You’ll definitely deal with apartment noise. You’ll have to take the subway eventually and it is truly the best way to get across Manhattan and the boroughs for anything that is outside of a 1 hour walk (unless you love walking for hours).

If you’re going to be like this then don’t move to NYC Beta, not sure if it is for you
Haha this is so true.
Beta? do you mean meta or is it a zone/district in NYC? by no means am i heading for NYC. I was impressed by the position and the team, not the city, at least not now. Manager prefer to let me be there at least for ramping up phase, and I think it makes sense. everyone almost always need to sacriface sth at some point.
