shoes ? nike food ? sysco, mcdonalds what goes up during recession ?
Low cost/free entertainment like Roku
Got to have inexpensive products. So McDonald's definitely looks like a good candidate. Not Nike.
You are trying to time the market. How do you know when recession will start and when its over. If you really have the ability to buy and hold, buy index funds.
You are reading between words.

Businesses that serve the poor. Walmart, dollar tree store, costco...
Not sure costco serves the poor, you have to pay for a membership
Costco serves the high income cheap people. Don’t get me wrong, they have good A-/B+ products
All stocks go down in recession Some less than others - so called "defensive" sectors like consumer staples or healthcare - but they still go down
McDonalds looked solid in 2008, lol
People still consume entertainment during economic downturn. I’d go Disney
