Glad I left that state
Lol it’s already policy most places for retail employees to not confront active shooters or shoplifters. SB 553 is not targeted at trained security guards and would not prevent them from confronting criminals or active shooters.
Seems like most people on this forum have never worked anything other than a desk job. Imagine getting shot at your $10/hr job. I don’t wish that upon anybody
In other words, close your business and leave CA.
Yes. Then the businesses can enjoy the behemoth of an economy that is Alabama or Missouri 😃

Maybe they should try a recall
Lol yes trust “proudelephant” to report a fair and balanced assessment of the bill. "SB 553 is focused on protecting employees. The bill does not prohibit employees from stopping theft. It does prevent employers from asking non-security personnel to confront a person involved in criminal activity. We don't want rank and file employees to be forced to place themselves in harm's way." So pretty much the OPPOSITE of that godawful headline. I’m sure OP lives in CA too. I’m sure they’re very worried about lives of people in CA and they’re not a partisan hack at all. 😂
Sick
What the law does : 1. Prevent employers from FORCING non security employees to confront criminals What the law does not prevent : 1. Employees or employers VOLUNTARILY confronting criminals 2. Employers asking security staff to confront criminals So folks who want to confront criminals without the law can still do so.
Yeah this is a good law. If an employer wants security they should hire them. Asking some teenagers to confront armed robbers or possibly dangerous shop lifters is vile
Why I have a feeling that democrats brought this in response to this incidence. They could not legally charge this employee; now there is law. Insane!! https://youtu.be/eIFKtOsZl8c?feature=shared
Probably
No. The law does NOT prohibit employee from confronting the criminal. The employees still can beat shit of the criminals if they want. The law prohibits employers from forcing the employees doing it. It should be fully voluntary now. This is good.
