table tennis coaching

I started learning TT in undergrad. After around an year I learnt a lot and would mostly be able to beat everyone except the college team players ( 6-7 people in the university). After that my game plateaued and didnt improve beyond a point. I really enjoyed playing before this but this started frustrating me and I stopped playing because of it. Does that happen to you guys ? I still really enjoy playing but dont play because it frustrates to see how bad I have become compared to what I was before . Should I get a coach ?

i love tt and have been taking lessons and training for almost two years now. i definitely suggest getting a coach. in regards to your frustration, don’t focus on winning or losing too much. you should be thinking about every point separately and thinking about if you are executing the appropriate stroke correctly. if you do this, the wins will come over time. training via lessons from a coach will help you better get into this mindset. feel free to pm me about any tt questions!

First world problems indeed. Makes me wonder when I'll start worrying about stuff like this, can't wait for that day. That being said, I was experiencing something similar while playing TT alot years ago. If I am not wrong, I think you haven't spent time learning TT, you have only spent time playing it. You could get a coach or learn and practice by looking at videos online. This time learn and practice to improve skill and points will follow.

I am quite passionate about TT as well, have been playing since school. Although I haven't taken coaching or anything, I watch a lot of top Chinese national players such as Ma Long, Fan Zhendong on YouTube and follow their game/techniques very closely and try to adapt in my game as much as possible. Also, look for leagues around your area in usatt.simplycompete.com and see if you can participate regularly competing against fellow players. This would also make you better over time
