New hire at Boeing, less than a month. Is it too soon to request/look for a new team? How does the internal transfer process work? I'd like to continue my career development, which I won't get in this current position. Background: bachelors in electrical engr, 5+ years in hardware/digital design, looking to convert to software engr #boeing #aviation
Most companies have an expectation of 6 months in role before transitioning. However, with the right approval it can be overcome. I recently changed roles less than 1 month in at the request of my manager to fill a void for a vacant position he knew i could do. I would try getting some stretch assignments to fill any idle time at work without over tasking and learn more about the company and it’s practices in adjacent departments. At the minimum it just looks like you’re going above and beyond the expectations.
Sounds like you shouldn’t have accepted this job? Transfers can take forever especially if it involve any change in job code. If you see a job you want, you should apply for it, and don’t ask for a transfer. Expect 12 months time in seat before any manager would consider moving you.
Too soon... takes time to absorb and acclimate. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't network to see what other teams are like... if their SOW interests you.
