tired of hearing about people grinding away optimizing resumes to beat parsers. fuck these parsers. the way the text is parsed in a pdf should never be a bottleneck for your resume to be seen by recruiters. normalize json resumes as a unified standard in tech: https://jsonresume.org/ if lever, greenhouse, and whatever that other one is just adopted this, it would save a lot of trouble. /rant TC 277k 🍌
JSON is deprecated.
Disagree, how else can my resume stand out from other idiots who cant even write a nice resume? It’s an inefficiency that I like to exploit.
that's an extremely good point. it's an easy edge to have, if your resume parses and looks perfectly.
A word file is a 20 year old file format. If someone can’t use a computer and it’s basic tools then they are an idiot. It’s not really an edge to be able to use a computer, though it is a filter for grossly incompetent people.
Fuck JSON it’s XML til I die
Unethical life pro tip: Put hidden white text buzz terms at the very bottom of your resume so filters will always put your resume in the pile to be manually looked at
Holy shit, you're a genius
Those now get filtered. People put white text of job posting
Why JSON when there's YAML
i like YAML way more, so either/or!
Can you pls link any yaml tool website template if possible I really need job rn..
Protobuf
Thanks for the link. Never considered a JSON resume
The problem is that it's hideous for someone to read. Easy for a machine though
+1 for YAML. I like the idea, but it'd take a long time to catch on. I suppose in the meantime, as long as there is a program to convert a JSON/YAML resume into an easily-parseable and somewhat-visually-appealing PDF, then it doesn't really matter? Then the problem would even solve itself over time -- if the JSON/YAML resumes catch on, HR's PDF parsers will start to optimize for them too. Edit: looks like this is basically what jsonresume.org is doing. So, if you really prefer YAML, you could use it and convert to JSON.
It would be fucking nice to not have to upload my resume, and then have to manually put in all my employers, etc.
tell me about it. for god sake, it's just a dumb problem with a simple solution, that literally saves everyone more time and trouble
