Discrimination on the rise?

I had an interview with Crowdstrike recently but didn’t move past the hiring manager round (ie. my technical skills weren’t even accessed). I’m female, in my late 30’s (although I look younger). I’ve been told I’m personable and great to work with. I know a previous engineering manager from my current company working at Crowdstrike who wrote to the hiring manager telling them they would be lucky to hire me. I understand that managers have the right to pick who they want to work with but this one felt particularly off to me. I had a similar experience recently with Docker. Has anyone else felt like the competition in the market may be contributing to discrimination? #crowdstrike #docker #engineering #software TC 126k YOE 5+

That has always been the situation. Resorting to portraying oneself as a victim won’t be of much help; it will only lead to anxiety and diminish your confidence for the next interview. Best of luck.

Thank you.

Yes, things are more biased in a tight market. There is nothing that can be done.

What observations can you share to show that it was discriminatory, other than he felt off to you?

Sometimes an internal referral is worse than not having one at all if the HM doesn’t like the person referring

There is no information here that justifies discrimination from what I can read. I am not saying it did not happen btw. But, saying discrimination w/o much grounds doesn’t seem very useful.

What specifically do you think they were discriminating against you for? If you want to hear a counterexample, my friend's gf who is similar in age as you recently accepted an offer there

Ageism is real and especially for women. Tech is full of shallow snobby male centric shit. Surprisingly many in management think female employees as someone to soften n motivate male colleagues. Having said that I’m 50 female engineer. I receive a good number of call back and HM passing rate to the next step. Don’t be discouraged, keep doing what you’re doing.
