Since Shopify off-late has been under the influence of FB a bit much - bringing in its software for communication, converting managers to ICs etc. As Zuck is trimming company more and rethinking remote work - would Tobi do the same ? #returntooffice #on-site #shopify
If we did RTO, it would take some time as we reduced a lot of office space, and converted the remaining into meeting spaces so there are very few desks. Doubtful this world happen this or next year given the economy.
Also most places where we have entities don't even have offices.
The management made some pretty bad financial decisions. They were too lavish. If they want to follow amazon, they need to be frugal like Amazon. Amazon uses door desks, and shopify uses Herman Miller chairs in conference rooms. Shows you the mentality. I think they could be in trouble soon.
Remote is way too profitable for Shopify. I find it really hard for us to RTO.
I don’t think Remote is stopping.
Damn! - unfortunately today the most voted option here came true. Shopify balance sheet needed to be trimmed and it was done in a brutal way. Tobi had to follow Zuckerberg.
They were remote-friendly before the pandemic too so it would surprise me to think they would change that. But again that would just mean they want people to leave on their own, so you can’t rule it out
