Need some career advice here. After spending 3.5 years at Amazon, I recently transferred from a different job family to a L6 product manager role (non-tech) at Amazon and am working my way to get to PM-Tech next year. As I also interviewed externally for quite a bit before the internal transfer, I just received an offer from Tiktok shop as Strategy & Analytics 3-1 level role. I am now torn between whether I should stay in Amazon and work towards PMT and L7 (at least 2 years down the road), or should I take this opportunity from Tiktok. Current TCT at Amazon $340k, this is inflated due to the unprecedented stock growth in 2023. I may see a cliff in TCT in 2025, which might be more like $300k. YoE: 8 years, with 3.5 years at Amazon Tiktok offer: $300k total comp (base + bonus + RSU), 3-1 level Pros of staying at Amazon: - My current role is Growth product manager, focusing on revenue growth roadmap. Growth PM is a newly emerged PM role in the tech industry and seems to witness rising demand. - This is my first time being a PM, and having it on my resume can opens up a lot more doors in the future as I plan to stay in tech in the long term. Based on what I observe, PM generally pays better than supporting function in tech industry. Cons of staying at Amazon: - It's not guaranteed that I can successfully move into PMT next year. - The path to L7 PMT is long and notoriously difficult. - I may see a cliff in TCT in 2025. Pros of moving to Tiktok: - Tiktok shop is fast growing given that it just launched in US market recently. High growth business tends to provide better upward mobility in career, while my new role in Amazon is in a mature business - Opportunity to own my charter and more likely to become people manager as the team is growing Cons of moving to Tiktok: - Level 3-1 seems to be a lateral move from L6 in Amazon. Tiktok offer is just matching my comp instead of a step up. - The role is strategy & analytics, which is a supporting role and not have as much ownership as PM. - Uncertainty due to potential Tiktok ban in US. If Bytedance sells Tiktok to a US buyer, Tiktok stock may take a hair cut (or may not). - Tiktok requires 5 days in office, and I heard that they have a 996 culture. WLB may be bad given that management is heavily based in mainland China. #tiktok #amazon #tech
I would not join that team - they have reorged 4 times in the past year and people both managers and ICs have moved into worst roles

Do you speak Chinese? If no, thank TikTok for their time and decline their offer. Thank me later.
Your TikTok offer is riddled with cons, uncertainty and instability. The risk is just not worth the reward in my opinion
TikTok only lets you sell 20% of the stock they give you. It’s a total scam
Titok only company with worse working conditions than Amazon in the bay don’t join without big tc bump
Lol its even worse in Seattle. I made the same move from Amazon to Tiktok 6months ago and probably one of the worst decision I have taken. Save yourself
You don’t need to make the change for this little a TC bump. Negotiate TT to 3-2 with higher TC package, if they don’t bump it then walk
Hey OP! I’m in the same boat. Got a 3-1 offer for Seattle location (Tiktok shop) and I’m still debating if it’s worth joining. Dm me

Seems like staying at Amazon is the only reasonable choice .
