Having an interview coming up at KMB. Fed up of Amazon now. Wanted to know, how Kotak is in terms of: - WLB - Quality of work - Culture (firing etc) - Cutting through the bullshit (One reason for wanting to quit Amazon is the need to write BS docs. I write low level design docs for small changes, when I could have just raised the code review straightaway) - Risks (Maybe they realise that the revamping idea is not good and shut down the shop? ) People who are working there or are aware about it, can you please help me with your perspectives on these points? Also, any suggestions on what all places can be a good potential move for me considering WLB and quality of work to be a decently important factors? Can take some pay hit. 78L, 4.5 YOE
Just curiousโฆ is KMB a good paymaster ? can they match the Amazon salaries ? Little surprising
They're paying similar salaries for equivalent roles.

Heard from a friend working there - damn very toxic, no process being followed, any day they come up and will ask to create a UI screen and ask to give demo. Amazonians are creating shitty their culture as same as earlier.
This sounds even worse than Amazon ๐ Thanks for the feedback ๐
How many years at Amazon ? What else apart from documentation is making hell for you at Amazon ?
Documentation is just one small part, can do that. They put me on focus for no reason. During the focus time, I delivered at best at the same rate as before. Now they're saying I meet the bar and they'll take me out of focus. A senior teammate turned out to be a backstabber giving -ve feedbacks. Looking to switch teams but now with focus in the record and not many openings internally, it might be difficult.
Bad experience. Is this focus relevant to all teams or depends on the org/team profit or your relationship with the manager?
Bad experience, no process followed
Are you working there? If yes, can I dm?
Yes
Itโs a bit messy - you have to be clear in your mind on what you are looking for- there is great opportunity to do things ground up along with leadership support but you need to go through grunt work to setup the processes. On ground the biggest problem is lack of role clarity- but if you are able to get to a clear problem statement - it should be good. If you are looking for a completely settled life you will not get that.
I'm fine with building things grounds up as long as sufficient time is given to do that. Is it more like a fire fighting mode where things have to be done quickly and someone is constantly poking you or more of an understanding culture where you can buy time for your work? Also, how are the typical working hours per week?
@kotak Is kotak giving wfh ? Could you please share the employee benefits?
From what I've heard it's a bit boring. Plus I see lots of amazonians there. So culture could be similar.
Yeah, that's what I fear about. But given that their problem statement is completely different from Amazon (big tech vs trying to create something big), can that be a factor in quality of work / culture?
Honestly banking and legacy banking are notorious for a reason you could find yourself in the middle of tech that is severely outdated.
