Technical Program Managers please share how your experience has been different at Amazon vs others companies (Facebook, Microsoft,Google) My experience is that TPMs at Amazon have well defined role and ownership. Given that Amazon is high ownership culture as opposed to consensus based culture in Microsoft for e.g., I feel it’s easier to keep people accountable and deliver quickly at Amazon (esp with two pizza teams). Look forward to hearing your perspective on these cultural differences and how TPM role has been different in these companies based on your experience.
Yes. In Amazon, TPMs have way more influence than any other big companies. Mostly due to amazon treats its SDEs as crap. So as TPM its easier to screw (hold-accountable or whatever u interpret) SDEs in Amazon.
I think SDEs are more powerful in Amazon. I noticed that SDMs are more powerful in Microsoft and they are the ones involved in high level discussions from tech side.
I thought u were asking on TPM roles. In amazon also, SDMs and TPMs mostly drive the stuff. They decide when and what to deliver. Senior SDEs decide how.
