I think everyone can agree that: - Higher education should be accessible and affordable for everyone. - Going to college should not put someone into multiple decades of debt Why are private universities allowed to keep raising the cost of attendance by exhorbitant amounts? (currently at ~80k a year for some) Why is there not more attention on fixing the root of the issue? Solutions such as policies to limit tuition increases, or limiting the amount of interest that student loans can have. In a couple years, the students coming out of college will be coming out with even more debt than ever before, and we will be back right back to square one. People have been debating back and forth over 10000 dollars of debt forgiveness while these institutions are laughing and rolling around in our debt money.
Price fixing doesn't work, take money out of the demand side by getting the fed out of student loans entirely and prices would plummet.
Open up you own private university to lower demand
Getting a degree at a private college is only worth it if your parents are filthy rich or you get a full scholarship. If you are neither, then good to a good state school and do your grad school from those private colleges (med/law/mba) or the best university for your masters/phd program.
Need more people to go in state schools instead of OOO or private. Supply and demand. And kill future student loans entirely.
Because they're private?
There are many good and affordable universities in this world. Around 50k USD should be a reasonable max amount of student loan that someone should have after getting an undergrad degree, if they're making informed and financially responsible decisions.
Stop giving kids wheelbarrows full of money. Colleges will lower their prices or lose business to those that do. When you see someone pouring fuel on a bonfire, it makes more sense to stop the fuel than to try to legislate a maximum temperature.
fixing college prices will fix the problem permanently. Thats bad pay off some ongoing loans buys votes and allows to repeat infinitely every 4-6y without a change. You can endlessly campaign promising to fix it. Thats good

Demand and supply. If you don’t like it, go to a state college
