Meta wlb
I just got a Meta E6 offer. The horrible wlb stories worried me a lot from taking it. All my Meta friends told me E6 is hunger game and I must have house of cards level political skills. I mean, how bad it is? Can someone share some examples? Updating the TC… 550k
How is the offer?
That TC seems pretty far on the lower end of E6, there may be some negotiating room there. There's certainly people at Meta that really push their own limits to get to and work at the highest level they can because the benefits are worth it. I don't think that true of most E6+ though. I wouldn't describe it as chill, but it's certainly not stressful and I certainly don't need to fight for anything.

Which org? Wlb is very team dependent, for example in ads youll probably be pushing 50+ hours a week but on the other hand some teams in vr you can get away with 30 fairly easily. It also depends on how good your manager is at navigating politics. Avoid new managers.
wlb is not the best. Yes, politics is worse than democrats vs republican, at least from my team. I’m bad at it so I’m feeling low

Imo that TC isn’t worth the stress of E6 in a bad org, it’s okay in a good org. If you’re looking at something like ads or infra I’d be cautious for that money. In RL you might be okay. The political game is really rough everywhere though, especially since there appear to be mandated curves that get applied now. In the last 6 months, back stabbing has gotten out of control. I’ve seen whole teams line up behind a TL to fuck someone more than once. It really comes down to how well you can promote yourself, your work and protect your scope. If you think that sounds fun… go for it. I personally hate that.
Which orgs are good? RL, instagram, AI infra?
Could metamates from RL please comment? Have an E6 loop with RL soon. More $ for sure, but even if i crack it, would I be a 🐑 in the hunger games as new external E6?
