Got bored to the point of self-immolation at Salesforce that I started working on “vision” stuff just because. That not surprisingly has turned into wheels-spinning which isn’t much different from extreme boredom. Have opportunities at both Oracle and AWS, but it’d be about a $30k/yr cut. Worth considering or wait it out? TC: $300
I’d only take a pay cut if my commute was essentially cut to 15 min or less, or unlimited ability to wfh without retaliation. And I would never do more than 10% unless I was planning on retiring in a few years anyway.
If anything within 5 years of retirement is the worst time for a pay cut. It will permanently affect your future due to social security payments.
What if I want to retire before social security and get an ‘in retirement’ easy job?
Relocation. You pay for seeing the world
I took a bigger paycut than that to leave salesforce. Was an usual situation though as my pay package was inflated at SF due to joining via acquisition.
Like I said. Because of the acquisition. Left a lot of stock and retention on the table. At steady state SF would be lower.
Never?
Which city are you in?
Seattle
What do you mean vision? Looks strategy?
Like making shit up. I find flawed things in Salesforce’s platform, and riff on things that we “could” do. It’s not invalid, it’s just a lot less organized than say Amazon’s PRFAQ process. Which also has issues.
Do not take a pay cut to work for Oracle. You'll regret it.
That’s my sense. I get this weird feeling Oracle can’t deliver on half of what it promises.
Do yourself a favor and avoid Oracle
If you know you're over paid and your business unit is struggling or your tech skills are dying and you'll probably get laid off in a couple years anyways.
I took a pay cut to relocate out of the bay although in hand it was more $s
Yeah can see that. I’m in Seattle so I guess if I left Seattle for not San Fran this could work.
Boredom at salesforce? What happened to Ohama culture
Oh we’ve got the Ohana going on. People at Salesforce are wonderful I’m just in Seattle, and most of my team is in other offices.
