working in MV, live in SF or MV?
edit: changed MTV to MV besides polls that can't be changed Incoming googler at MV here that's trying to decide where to live. I've looked at dozens of teamblind/quora posts about this and I understand fully the pros and cons of each option. about me: - east asian (but more american-born chinese) - don't have many friends in the bay area and also SF - likes going out to restaurants/bars - not a big fan of cars, prefer public transportation I've heard a lot of differing opinions, and I'm currently leaning towards living in SF and commuting via gbus to MV. However, I'm afraid it's hard to get to know googlers since most new grad googlers who work in MV seem to live in MV. SF proper is super far from mountain view. That will be a hell of a commute, especially with traffic or on public transition.
They have the buses but that will wain if you are in everyday. Pay a slight premium for a 3m lease in Mountain View (stop abbreviating it like that) and then make a choice about whether to get a place in SF or MV for longer term. I would advise going to SF for a few nights in an Airbnb to see how it feels to be there for more than a day trip.
