upper management hypocrisy

Facebook's motto is "make the world more open and connected." If upper management really believed in this motto (i.e. if they weren't hypocrites), then they wouldn't be trying to destroy Snapchat and the other FB competitors. in fact, if we took the motto to heart, FB wouldn't have any competitors -- after all, Snapchat and the rest are helping to make the world more open and connected! In reality, fb exists to profit the higher ups (more money, power, status, etc for them). I would respect upper management much more if they just fessed up to the true nature of the organization, instead of trying to motivate us with nice-sounding bullshit. anyone else feel this way?

What does qualtrics do? Never heard of it

Facebook snoopdog Mar 19, 2017

Oh interesting. You like working there?

Microsoft hihihihi Mar 19, 2017

Facebook is a publicly traded company. You aren't allowed to have a top priority that isn't making more money.

This topic was covered really well in Silicon Valley season 1.

All SV companies have some BS "making the world a better place" motto. It's really hypocritical as most of them are more greedy than wall street banks. Many of these companies are working on technologies which will put 10s of millions of people out of work soon, with no care at all what these people are going to do after that. Yet, they keep repeating that they solve the world's biggest problems, but omitting that they are going to cause the biggest yet to come. Please don't give me the line that we'll re-train truck drivers to data scientists.

Is the issue that people will have no jobs, or that they won't have a way to make a living? If machines take jobs away from people, then we need to give those people a way to make a living. That's not necessarily a job, instead of being truck drivers they could dedicate themselves to stuff that machines can't do well, human like-things.

LinkedIn Xenophon Mar 19, 2017

What are those human-like things, and how many jobs are there like that? Do you want a truck driver take care of your kids, massage your back, cut your hair, be a personal servant? How many more hairdressers or massage therapists are needed? I'm highly sceptical here.

Highest level of hypocrisy was when WhatsApp was selectively banning urls to competitors like Telegram

"I can't live in a world where someone else makes this world a better place better than we do" quote from Silicon Valley

Sounds like you finally took the red pill

Exactly - keep going down Red Pill Lane, write back in a month with more conclusions.

What is a Red Pill ?

We want an open and inclusive world but we will not allow anyone else to make it but us

You can step up your career when you start to understand & promote hypocrisy. Almost all politicians are hypercritical. Do you see senators send their kids to army when they say you should sacrifice for your country?

Facebook public Mar 19, 2017

No. However it sounds like you do not understand what snap or fb actually do though which is a little concerning...
