Looking for tech referrals in Florida

Hi everyone. I am a fourth year CS student at McMaster University (which is why blind thinks i work at McMaster-Carr) and I'm trying to break in to the tech scene in Florida for personal reasons. I was wondering if anyone could give me an referral to a company in the Orlando area, or anywhere else in Florida. Thank you all! #swe

Good luck. I was in Orlando as a new grad and the market is awful. Low pay compared to a rising COL and very few decent companies. You may have to look elsewhere. Also, not sure how familiar you are with Orlando but it has a weird vibe to it. Like a Disney corporate dystopia with no sense of community.

Ty for the good luck wishes! Yea I noticed I’ve been looking and it’s not looking great for new grads. I of course am still gonna try and get there even with a potentially lower TC, but it’s been really hard so far to even land an interview.

Any reason you’re targeting Orlando?

In Orlando your two major options are Disney and Lockheed Martin (unless you’re into cybersecurity, there’s actually a pretty cool cybersecurity scene). Disney is going to pay better but neither is going to be worth bragging about. You could definitely afford to live fairly comfortably in Orlando on a Disney tech salary - probably 80-100k base fresh out of college and another 10-20k in RSUs. There’s a lot of shadow IT jobs at Disney, those are going to pay less than the real ones but are way easier to land.

That range sounds very good to me im not gonna lie. I know its lower than a place like SF but its honestly within the range of what I'd be willing to give up to live there. Thanks alot for the help!
