I've wasted like 1k already. The first one would constantly unplug the USB devices and plug them after 2 seconds. Yep, the USB connection sound is now triggering for me. The second one I have now has like a 20% chance of bringing each monitor online when I switch, so I have to cycle the monitors on and off like a š¤” until it stays on. Usually 10 tries, takes like 3 minutes. Please help me find a proper KVM switch for two computers that just works. It needs to be all displayports and at least 3 USBs. I don't care whether it supports 4k 144hz quantum HDR ultra deluxe. If I choose your product and it ends up being even marginally better than the above two, I will make an options play of your choice (up to level 3), and should it pay off, I will send to your ADA address 50% of the profits. If you recommend one of the two I already have, you lose reputation. Can we play? #desperate
If you need DP then TESmart is your only option
Buy 2x your peripherals instead, problem solved.
Expensive as hell but look into ConnectPro UDP2-12AP or its siblings Most KVMs are utter garbage, this one is actually EDID compliant
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. After no deliberation I have chosen swigglebox as my new best friend as they have shown a deeper understanding of the issue at crux. I just need to gather a bit of courage to bite this one and will report back in approx. 1.5 week once I've received the switch and tried it for a bit.
Hey, good stuff! āAfter no deliberationā lol. Hope it works out for your use case š
I've had good success with IOGear KVM for work laptop / home PC /shared monitor/keyboard/mouse. It was DVI...and I had to use a DVI -> Displayport adapter to plug into my work laptop displayport. Worked fine.
No KVM needed. I use Logitech Bolt wireless keyboard and mouse - they each support three connection profiles, can share the Bolt receiver or use bluetooth, then just cycle my monitor among the three inputs. https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/keyboards/mx-mechanical.html https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/mice/m720-triathlon.910-004790.html
I went through a similar process and found using multiple switches to be a better solution than an expensive KVM switch, especially when display port is required for 4k resolution from a MBP or a video card from a pc. My setup is a MBP I use for work and a gaming PC with windows. I wanted to share 2x 4k monitors, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and speakers between them. One particular thing about my setup though is I prefer using only 1 external monitor centered with my laptop display centered below it. This may be different than what you prefer and might affect this solution. I use 3 things for switches: This USB switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXXQKGM This aux switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073GWCRP3 This belkin thunderbolt 3 dock I got from work: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M2TRTNL I connect my MBP laptop to the above dock with a single ubc-c to ubc-c cable. The dock is connected to ethernet, power and an output from both the USB switch and aux switch. The dock has display port : display port connection to my centered external monitor. I donāt use my 2nd external monitor with the MBP. My PC is connected to another ethernet cable, power, and outputs from USB and aux switches. The PC connects to each monitor with display port : mini display port cables. To "switch" my keyboard/monitors/speakers, I have to do 3 things: 1. hit the USB switch 2. hit the aux switch 3. change the display of my centered monitor from showing display port input to mini display port through the monitor settings This isn't exactly a single switch to change everything over, but it works and was a super cheap investment from my end since my work provided the belkin dock. And since I keep my laptop open and use its screen, I can use that screen/keyboard/speakers to respond to slack/email even if I have my switches pointed to my PC. TLDR: buy individual usb/aux switches. Use different monitor inputs for your two machines and switch between them from monitor buttons.
I use this for my personal Mac and office Mac. Docking Station Dual Monitor for MacBook Pro/Air, USB C Docking Station Dual 4K HDMI, USB C Dock Station with 2 HDMI, 6xUSB A, USB C, Gigabit Ethernet, PD Charging, SD/TF, 3.5mm Audio/Mic https://a.co/d/2tK7vcU I had issue with both monitors going off or taking time to come up, so I had to use dual monitor hdmi adapter something like this: LIKFAVOR MacBook Pro Docking Station, Dual Monitor MacBook Pro HDMI Adapter,12 in 2 USB C Adapters for MacBook Pro Air Mac HDMI Dock Dongle with 2HDMI DP Ethernet AUX 4USB SD/TF100W PD https://a.co/d/hkwP8UO
Unable to find my order for dual adapter, I will send pic tomorrow if you dm me
Thank you for your entry. This one has HDMI ports whereas I need all DP. It was comedic to me that you gave me a problematic one as well but I appreciate your workaround.
