Hi, I have recently received an offer from GitHub India. I was assuming that they would be using Microsoft levels, but the recruiter mentioned that the level is 'Grade 7' with title Software Engineer II. He claimed that it's equivalent to Microsoft's level 61. He mentioned that the maximum tc that they can offer is: Base: 22.3L INR Stocks: 42K USD 20% bonus Sign on: 7L (4 + 3) TC is 38L, but i don't like the fact that a good amount of it is made up of bonus, while I'd rather have more base and stock. Though he claims that it's equivalent to L61, this really looks to me like top of band L60 offer. I have a competing offer from OCI with TC 35L (25 base + 7.5 stocks + 2.5 jb), which is slightly lower but it's a remote position (indefinitely, post covid as well), so I was only willing to consider GitHub if they give me a good increase on top of that. I wanted to confirm with anyone currently working in GitHub about this levelling, is Grade 7 equivalent to L61 ? Also, the recruiter claimed that it's possible to reach grade 9 in 2 years (but declined to offer grade 8 right now, which made me very suspicious) Also, would like some advice from people working in OCI or GitHub on which would be better in terms of career, tc progression and learning if I plan to stay for 3 to 5 years. Current TC - 17L yoe - 2 I was L4 at Amazon, I have already resigned and left a week back. Upd: decided to join OCI. #tech #offer #oci #github #microsoft #level
Fully remote is a nice perk! Which other big tech companies do also offer remote roles in India?
Fully remote? Which is it, GitHub or OCI?
Hey OP, I am out of DMs. Can you DM me?
DM'd
How did you get an interview OP? I don't see any GitHub openings on their careers page.
I got a referral, didn't apply from careers page.
Can’t answer the rest of your questions but this would be an 80%ile L61 offer at Microsoft (not L60). Don’t trust the recruiter with “you can get promoted in xx” stories. Promotion usually depends on your manager and recruiters use this as a tactic to convince you to sign the offer. The grading is super weird because levels.fyi talks about L1, L2 .. L6 for GitHub
Thank you so much for letting me know. I also talked to someone I know who's working in GitHub and they also confirmed the same.
Our levels got renumbered earlier this year. Overall we have fewer levels than MSFT. I think grade 9 is senior (63-64), 8 is equivalent to 62, 7 is to 61, and 6 is to 59-60. Lower levels aren't used for engineering and product.
I rejected OCI because heard from multiple people that TC will stagnate because of no refreshes, so if you plan to stay long term, would not recommend
Don't go to Oracle, chances are that you will be frustrated within a year!!
OCI certainly has impact based refreshers. If you're a top performer in the team you'll certainly get paid well. And seeing your profile, I guess you have a good chance of IC3 promotion as soon as you join OCI maybe in 1-2 years. I'm seeing growth with OCI based on their recent acquisitions (Zoom, Tiktok) and they're focusing to push a lot of cloud services out in the next year out to new customers. I'm expecting a stock growth as well and good increments when that happens.
What level at Amazon?
L4
