If you are planning to join CapitalOne, please make sure that you understand that CapitalOne has forced calibration where 8-15% of employees are forced to below strong rating every 6 months. Join only If you are ok with that. Secondly some teams might have toxic environments so be careful.
I've heard the same about performance management from a lot of folks at Captial One
A friend at CapOne in NoVA, who had an excellent track record, was managed out via forced attrition after his organization was reorganized.
It was relaxed last few years but it has ramped up and it's brutal
That’s sad.
Do they have goals to manage out a certain % of people too?
they definitely do have quotas for the bottom bucket in stack ranking, if that’s what you’re referring to. I think it was as high as 10%-15%
Do they terminate a certain percent of employees every now and then stating bad performance?
TC?
Yes if CapitalOne is hiring a lot then the number of people in the company should increase correct? No it's still at 50k since last decade... 0 growth.
A quick Google search shows this to be false… headcount up from 42k to 55k over the last decade…
Wow! And in the same time Amazon grew from 120k to 1.5mil... but I recognize you are smart 🤓
Nice things don’t last forever
Don’t be in the bottom 10% then. There’s pros and cons to every system. I actually prefer a company that stays lean by letting go the lowest performers than a company that gets fat and then fires indiscriminately across the board (top performers included). My opinion my not be popular but I’ve seen both and it’s an easy choice.
Right? I’ve been at companies where the low performers coast for 6 months before someone does anything about it. I haven’t been at a company with the stacked ranking but my gut tells me if you put in the work it’s pretty easy to stay out of the bottom 10%…
Well if you have a choice to be not in the bottom, I would love not to be in the bottom, but its your supervisor who decides. Sometimes that has some level of bias towards people they like over people they don't like... You might work really hard as a newbie, but if they want to save the team members who have been there for some time, they will put you below and give you the reason that you are new and need to learn the ropes in the company.

Been seeing a lot of Cap1 hate as of late. Is it that bad? I see others saying they’re also facing a recruiting pool issue where others aren’t. Any truth to this?
Yup once you join Cap1, you will realize very quickly. Everyone is constantly trying to protect themselves rather than making progress on delivery.
it’s bad
