U.S. pharmacy chain CVS Health (CVS.N) is cutting 5,000 jobs, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The company spokesperson said CVS does not expect "any impact to our customer-facing colleagues in our stores, pharmacies, clinics, or customer services centers." https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/cvs-shed-5000-jobs-cost-cutting-push-wsj-2023-08-01/ I know a few folks in IT side hope they are unaffected by it.
Sorry to hear about this, OP. My heart goes out to anyone affected. I’ve worked retail before and layoffs hurt these type of workers the most. Politics aside, this is quickly becoming a little bit more dire in the market, considering that the layoff wave is slowly creeping into retail and restaurants. A recession is somewhat unlikely, although we’ve experienced a lot of inflation over the past few years. TC: 105K
Aren't we already in a recession ?
It says the layoffs won’t impact customer facing store employees
Damn, I had a friend recently reach out to me to offer a referral if I saw anything fitting there. Hope he's okay.
5000? Are you CVS right now?
The worst part is they don’t even know who they will fire! There are exec directors who sign in 2-3 days a week for max 2 hours and have a terrified team but they will be unscathed! Their teams working their asses off will be let go
It's always like that.
They have closed many retail stores in metro areas where shoplifters are pillaging them. In the DC metro area, within a 5 mile radius, we had 6 CVS. Now, down to 2.
Keep in mind all these layoffs are not store employees
Some of the store employees were transferred but many lost their jobs. I am in the DC area too. It's sad that CVS doesn't do anything about the thefts and fires employees who confront shoplifters. I agree these were not the job losses reported by the WSJ.
