Hello Blind, Need some help making a decision on where to move now with COVID largely over. I’m 27M, $175k TC, no debt, single, and 100% remote. I love the outdoors, going out, and going to concerts as my hobbies. I’m from the Northeast. I’m trying to decide between NYC or Denver as homebase. I lived in NYC prior to COVID and moved out when it went to shit, but honestly loved living there when it was normal. Incredible dating scene and an absolute blast. Got my outdoor fix by going upstate from time to time. Now not sure how shitty it still is or isn’t there, or if a lot of young people permanently moved out. If I moved back I’d probably live in LIC/Astoria as I want to own a car to go north, and hangout in North BK from time to time. My company has an office there. Denver I here is all the rage, and sort of checks what I went in a city, but I don’t really know anyone there, and I’ve also read it’s getting a bit crowded. I’m worried it might be hard to make friends. I know I will want to eventually settle in the Northeast long term, so this is only a temporary stop along the way if I move there. Also have heard mixed things dating wise. Heard “Menver” but maybe that’s changed with people moving there? Honestly just enjoying my TC and living it up as a single bachelor is my primary priority, just had a LTR end, so it’s been a shit year. Looking for opinions on anyone actually living in these places as a pulse check on how these places are doing with the reopening.
What about other locations other than these 2 places?
Florida
Try Denver! If you know you’ll want to be back in the Northeast after some time, might as well take advantage of the situation and try out a new city with incredible outdoor access. Maybe you’ll be surprised.
why not live near a university and save on COL
Boulder is way more expensive than Denver. Very often university is actually more expensive than other areas.
I meant any university in a low col state
You've lived in NYC before. Have you lived in Denver? If not, why don't you give it a trial run with an airbnb for about a month.
Yep, best answer.
Denver. Buy or rent near Morrison/Golden. Great spots to launch yourself on to the mountains.
NYC turning into shithole. It gets dirty, homeless, random attacks by junkies, more crowded, traffic is much worse than pre virus. Maybe the new major will do something but now it’s the same kind of the shithole as SF or Portland. You also can check commuter towns like Stamford or Tarrytown, the city is still close by train, but much less shit on the streets. But if you like go north, Denver is a good place to try at least for couple years
There was a recent article saying that companies prefer not to hire remote workers out of Colorado. Probably should look into that
Stay in CA or NYC if you’re an ultra liberal. Don’t destroy Colorado the same way liberals destroyed California.
If you’re fully remote, move to one of the front range cities outside of Denver, not Denver proper. Getting out of the city and into the front range (presumably why you want to move there?) can be awful after work especially Friday afternoons - I lived there a while ago for a while and it’s very common advice I got from friends when I considered moving out. Where specifically depends on your interests.
Do you mean places like Golden, Boulder, Lafayette, or Longmont?
Yeah exactly. If you don’t have to be in Denver proper for work, and access to outdoors is your priority, you’ll probably want to live there instead of the city.
