But it was for consulting companies primarily as the focus and not with the tech companies in mind. The point of the matrix is my perceived difficulty in getting into a company compared and the likelihood of them putting you in a role as a US citizen in a DACH region country (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Do any of you know of any firms/companies hiring US citizen’s as software developers in the DACH region? The only places I’ve gotten pushed forward to assessments/interviews with for international roles as a US citizen was with bain + bcg consulting (all of DACH), the international atomic energy agency, and an Austrian research institute. I’ve taken lots of German classes throughout my education and I WANt to go speak German. I also like trains and public infrastructure, and the US’s public transit infrastructure makes me so so angry. Right now my resume is stupid popular for roles in the US (multiple recruiters every day emailing/calling me) but this whole country depresses me. I don’t want to live in yet another city on this same forsaken island in between the Atlantic and pacific. There’s a whole ass other world beyond this border and I fucking want to explore it. I also specifically hold a scorn towards automotive companies but live near Detroit so the on-site roles are just building more private ass transportation that I don’t want for wages that don’t justify the level of disgust I feel towards myself when im in these roles. This is all such a rage post and venting, I’m sorry. Probably blacklisting myself from companies with my posts in here lately eek oops. What I’m curious about thought, is if any of you have looked into the highly skilled visa programs in Austria or Germany as software developers? Germany just updated theirs to be more similar to Austria’s which runs on a point system per applicant on rules around education + age + work/school experience . Germany did this bc they’re having a worker shortage. I’m just thinking of taking out a loan and going to this program then relocating to Germany to find a job? Even offers of $200k but with clauses “remote but in the US only” dooooont interest me. It’s so damn bittersweet bc the jobs in Germany/Austria I KNOW are going to pay like €50k if I’m lucky so turning down this seems crazy.
Looks sad
The challenge appeals me. After getting fired and quitting from many jobs that have been not the greatest I’ve saved up enough to be very picky with my next role even if it is in the US. I’m getting closer of escaping this suburb and not to another suburb/city in the US. Now I have the power to only interview for wfh jobs bc my skillset is in such high demand. I’m gonna look into over employment now i think since places are offering wfh people less. Didn’t have that last time I was in this position. Now I have a fresh slate with no bad blood between myself and my last company (or not as much as my last time i lost my job), a bachelors degree with no student loans, no golden handfuls, and in demand skills Covid springed on us all this new wfh normal and now the tax laws need to catch up. That’s what I’ve learned is one of the main things keeping me from being able to get a US wfh job and living overseas.
How is Amazon most difficult?
Oh my god amazons interview process makes me want to eat glass. Ive gone through their interview loop toooooo many times for tooooo many rando ass roles. Their recruiters are always reaching out to me and then sometimes they flash stupid high salaries at me and I give in. I don’t always say yes but when I do I regret it. The assessments at Amazon will drive any rational person up a walL— why is this company asking people interviewing for roles in prime music to create an algorithm that sorts through packages by their weight??? wHY!! I understand Amazon just wants to see how I think, but oh my god. It feels so inhumane, sterile and irrelevant to actual problems I’d be facing in my job. For a mobile dev job ask me about how I feel about MVC Vs the MV* theories, ask me what the differences are between using expo to launch apps and a native xcode solution, ask me to create a simple mobile app than reads data from an api and renders it. But goddamnit it no, Amazon will ask u to code a binary tree to your asshole. I’ve interviewed with Google before but it was just creepy. A family friend invited me over to the local Google office for lunch and then the next day a Google recruiter interviewed me for a sales role???? In the advertising department ??? Needless to say when the interviewer asked me to “tell them about a time I persuaded someone?” — when I told them about my music photography concert phase where i would photo shop passes and bypass security guards to get into venues and photo pits that didn’t qualify me for the next round lol. Then I’ve had Google recruiters reach out to me a LOT to work in the Google autonomous driving division and …. Absolutely not interested in being a little test dummy for this autonomous car .. nope, I saw my dad do that job for years— yucky 🤢 jehdhshbewwwww 🤮
where's Meta
I am going to update this after I get some feedback here and refocus where I apply my efforts. I made this a year-ish ago when I was at sunnova. But I upset my managers at sunnova and got fired bc my heart wasn’t in the project anymore and I think they could tell
