Hey Blind Community, I’m wondering if some of you have advice for transitioning to non-tech roles (sales or BD) within tech companies. (Or even MedTech companies like Medtronic or intuitive). I’ve had recruiters tell me about some certifications and what not that would strengthen my application but not sure what to follow… have applied to a few positions where I meet min. requirements but not getting any calls. Reason for transition is TC is too low currently for my level of experience and performance i am delivering. Tech companies clearly pay way more than my current org can afford. I Understand that moving into tech would mean title calibration but really care more about base than anything. Background: MedTech sales director, manage team of reps in the US, have grown progressively from territory management to upper management. Engineering undergrad. YOE: 8 TC: 102 + 35stock Lastly to add, I would also be open to start ups as I know I’d get paid well and be able to add huge value! I am currently running a startup division in a big corp. #Amazon #microsoft #intuitivesurgical #medtronic #Startup
Doesn’t answer your question but have you considered transitioning to Biopharma tech and services such as capital automation or software? You can easily double your TC, and perhaps even triple it. Few examples: Beckman Coulter Life Sciences account manager: 90 + 75 (low end on the range) Thermo Fisher Business Development Executive (IC): 170 + 30% bonus (high end of band) Thermo Fisher Senior Sales Manager (PM): 220 + 30% bonus (high end of band) Given your experience, would be an easier pivot than starting over in tech. Good luck though! TC: 265
No I haven’t actually. I’ve honestly been at one org since graduating as I always grew here. Now I’m seeing I may have shot myself in the foot doing that. Not a bad suggestion though, I’ll look into some of the orgs you mentioned and others in that level! Any idea if there are specific certs or something I should look at?
